This October marks the beginning of a new adventure for me and RB, as we gear up for an epic road trip. We’ve always been avid travellers, but this time, it’s special. We’re setting off from Ahmedabad, heading to Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of India. This isn’t just any road trip; it’s a journey that will take us across six states, immersing ourselves in the rich history, natural beauty, and diverse cultures of our vast country. The excitement is palpable as we prepare for a trip that will take us through Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry.
Our plan is simple but challenging. We’re leaving in mid-October and should be back by the third week of November. The open road will be our home, and our trusty camper van will serve as our shelter. In true explorer spirit, we’ll cook our meals for most of the journey, enjoying the freedom and independence that comes with it. Besides, eating out for such a long stretch doesn’t suit our lifestyle, and nothing beats the comfort of a home-cooked meal on the road.
As we prepare, I can’t help but think of the places we’ll visit. We’ve planned our route to cover both historical landmarks and scenic wonders. Each state along the way holds its treasure trove of stories, and I’m particularly excited about the contrast between bustling cities and serene countryside landscapes. The vastness of Maharashtra, with its ancient forts and coastal allure, and the spiritual energy of Tamil Nadu, known for its timeless temples, are especially high on my list.
Rameshwaram, a serene coastal town in Tamil Nadu, holds immense spiritual and historical significance. Known for its iconic Ramanathaswamy Temple, a major pilgrimage site for Hindus, it’s also famed for its beautiful beaches and the Pamban Bridge, India’s first sea bridge. Beyond its religious importance, Rameshwaram offers stunning views of the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean, making it a perfect blend of spirituality, history, and natural beauty. Whether you’re seeking peace or adventure, Rameshwaram offers a unique and soulful experience. Rameshwaram holds a special place in the life of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, one of India’s most beloved presidents and renowned scientists. He was born in this small coastal town on October 15, 1931, and spent his early years there.
Kanyakumari, where three seas meet, has always held a certain fascination for me. The idea of standing at the very tip of India, watching the sun rise and set over the vast ocean, fills me with a sense of awe. It’s not just about reaching the destination, though. This trip is about the journey itself—the people we’ll meet, the roads we’ll traverse, and the unexpected experiences that come with the open road. It will be my second visit to Kanyakumari. I first visited this place in 1989.
Another key part of this adventure is finding joy in the simple things, like cooking our meals together in the van. We plan to stock up on fresh local produce as we go, experimenting with regional flavours and making the most of what each place has to offer. Our little makeshift kitchen will become a cosy corner where we can relax, laugh, and reflect on the day’s experiences.
This trip also feels like a reconnection—not just with nature and India’s rich heritage, but with each other. After years of travel being limited due to family responsibilities, this road trip gives us the chance to explore together again, without the constraints of time. No flights to catch, no rush—just the two of us, the road, and the beauty of India unfolding before us.
As we make our way through different states, I plan to document everything—every historical place we visit, every natural wonder we encounter, every challenge we face (because there are bound to be a few!). Through our YouTube channel, ‘Ghummakad Diaries,’ we’ll share our experiences with all of you, from cooking meals in the back of the van to figuring out how to sleep comfortably in unfamiliar places.
This October, I’m looking forward to more than just a vacation. I’m ready to embrace the unknown, push the boundaries of comfort, and make unforgettable memories with RB. So, stay tuned as we embark on this journey to the southern tip of India—an adventure that promises to be as enriching as it is exciting!

For me, it’s always been about the journey rather than the destination. Every road we take teaches us something new, whether it’s navigating challenges, enjoying unexpected detours, or simply being present in the moment. Just like in life, the path we travel shapes us far more than where we end up. It’s the experiences, the lessons, and the memories along the way that truly matter, reminding us to embrace the unknown and find beauty in the process of getting there.
