Christmas celebrations in my childhood were about enacting a play about Christ’s birth in the local church. Then going to our teacher’s homes to eat goodies and receive gifts. 😁
It went on for a full 8 years till I passed my class 8th from the local mission school. It was nearby and so many from the neighbourhood were going to this school. All of us used to go walking through our university campus and it was a walk of less than 15 min from my place.
Since our whole housing complex was mainly inhabited by Hindus, the festivities around Christmas were nowhere to be seen. For us, Diwali and Holi were the festivals. But in our school we were making preparations for this celebration for almost a month. Few plays about Christ’s birth and Christ’s teaching, dances and Carol singing etc. We used to play the same in the school auditorium and then on 25th December in the local church. The excitement was more about the refreshments served after the morning mass in the church. The appreciation we used to get from all those people present was a great moral booster and motivator. We all used to feel like stars, actually bigger stars than the movie stars of those times.
After the performances and eating refreshments, we all go to our teacher’s homes in the afternoon. The two of our teacher’s were married while others were spinsters who used to live in the teachers hostel in the school premises. We were invited by them and in those times, even an invitation from a teacher is taken as an order to be followed.
Hisar in those days was a small town, where our group of girls used to walk around Mrs. Goodwin and Mrs. Andrews homes.
Hum bachche bus 🆓 ki chocolates ke chakkar main hi khaas jaate they. 😃
A very exciting celebration but very subtle too!
No marketing gimmicks , no loud music of Christmas Carol’s. I miss those kinds of celebrations.
We used to be back by the evening, completing more than 10K steps.
Happy childhood memories!
Unfortunately, photography was not so common and I don’t have any photos of those days to share. It is all imprinted on my mind though. 🎄🎄🎄💝💵🥳🎉
Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄!
