In 1981 the United Nations General Assembly declared September 21 as “The International Day of Peace”. Two decades later, in 2001, the General Assembly unanimously voted to designate the Day as a period of non-violence and cease-fire. Each year we observe the “International Day of Peace” on 21st September to strengthen the ideals of peace, by observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. (Though our nasty neighbour does not follow any peace protocol.)
A global ceasefire is appealed to all Member States to support a “sustained humanitarian pause” to local conflicts. This is to ensure that people caught in conflict have access to lifesaving vaccinations and treatments.
The desire and efforts to establish peace in the world brings a very pleasant and happy feeling. Different religions, philosphies and cultures may have different concepts of ideal state but the path to peace is the one that realizes our deepest humanitarian values and compassion.
We as humans have not yet developed an appropriate concept of world peace. We think that only mankind has a right to it. We must appreciate that all other creatures also need peace as much as we need it. All living beings living on our planet are part of the same life process.
Peace is not a political issue but a spiritual matter too.
I am sharing a sanskrit mantra from old Hindu scriptures
OM DHYAUH SHANTIH
ANTARIKSHAM SHANTIH
PRITHVÍ SHANTIH
APAH SHANTIH
OSHADHAYAH SHANTIH
VANASPATAYAH SHANTIH
VISHVE DEVAH SHANTIH
BRAMAH SHANTIH
SARVAM SHANTIH
SHANTIR EVA SHANTIH
SA MA SHANTIH-EDHI
OM Peace be in the universe,
Peace be in the atmosphere,
Peace be on earth,
Peace be in the waters,
Peace be in the herbs,
Peace be in the vegetation,
Peace be in the elements,
Peace of the Supreme,
Peace be everywhere,
Peace, only peace,
Peace be in my mind and heart.
We must make peace with nature also to have peace in our lives. Despite the travel restrictions and economic shutdowns, climate change is not on pause. We need a green and sustainable global economy that produces jobs, reduces emissions, and builds resilience to climate impacts. Every one must do their bit. It can be a self imposed ban about not to use plastic or separate the garbage. Learn the ways of sustainable living and try to incorporate as much as possible. We only have one earth to live. Let us take care for it and have peaceful existence with others
The 2021 theme for the International Day of Peace is “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world”.
Let us celebrate peace by standing up against acts of hate online and offline, and by spreading compassion, kindness, and hope in the face of the pandemic.
OM SHANTIH NAMAH !

Loved the powerful positive mantras on peace. Such positive vibes while chanting them.
More of us should be talking about peace and how the world crucially needs it
THere are so many fantastic days out there to celebrate. Only if we were diligent enough to practice what the teachings from these days.
Very true Pratibha. I guess, these days have been marked to remind people of the virtues and importance.

“We must make peace with nature also to have peace in our lives. Despite the travel restrictions and economic shutdowns, climate change is not on pause”
So true. Thanks for this much-needed reminder.
Thanks, Rustic Mind for stopping by ! Let us do our bit, how small it may be.
Peace is something we are deprived of very badly.. right from the time we wake up to sleep, either it’s the sounds around us to the peace that is prevailed through governments and various direct and indirect forces… It’s all over and very stressful.. hope we find ways where we can introspect and find ways to attain pleasance…
Very true. Being at peace is important and everyone has to find own way. I hope and wish, you find yours and be at peace. Thanks for reading and contemplating.
I am embarrassed to say that I was unaware of International Peace Day until I read your post. Peace is every individual’s responsibility, only then a city, country and nation and world can be peaceful.
I am happy that I could make you aware about this. May you find your peace and happiness in life.
Peace is at a premium in today’s world. Good you reminded us of it. Especially about the need to be at peace with nature.

Om Shanti! We all need to be at peace, especially during this stressful pandemic. Just when I thought I was at peace after 17 years of losing my husband, I now lost my young son. How can one be peaceful at this time? I am seeking answers.
My heartfelt condolences. Harjeet, they say time is a great healer but it does not work for a mom. I am so sorry to learn about your loss. Lots of strength and love to you.
The International Day of Peace is celebrated on September 21st every year and yet, how many people actually know of it? Thank you for sharing such an informative post. It is to be hoped that, at some stage, people realise the significance of a peaceful and sustainable world.
