“Home Sweet Home”
(Source: Musixmatch Songwriters: Nikki Sixx / Tommy Lee)
You know I’m a dreamer, But my heart’s of gold,
I had to run away high, So I wouldn’t come home low
Just when things went right, It doesn’t mean they were always wrong
Just take this song and you’ll never feel left all alone
Take me to your heart, Feel me in your bones
Just one more night, And I’m coming off this long and winding road
I’m on my way, I’m on my way, Home sweet home
Tonight, tonight I’m on my way, I’m on my way, Home sweet home
You know that I’ve seen, Too many romantic dreams
Up in lights, falling off the silver screen,
My heart’s like an open book, For the whole world to read
Sometimes nothing keeps me together at the seams
I’m on my way, I’m on my way, Home sweet home
Tonight, tonight I’m on my way, Just set me free, Home sweet home
Home sweet home, Home sweet home, Home sweet home
I’m on my way, I’m on my way, Home sweet home
Yeah, I’m on my way, Just set me free, Home sweet home
In the Mötley Crüe: The End – Live In Los Angeles DVD, bass player Nikki Sixx said of this song:
“It was a response to us from being gone so long during Shout At The Devil [1983 album and tour]. It was our first time. A tour bus picked us up at our little tiny apartments and we took off to go play some shows, and 18 months later we got dropped back in our little apartments. I was calling Tommy like, ‘Hey, what are you doing?’ ‘Sitting here. What are you doing?’ ‘I don’t know what to do.’ ‘I don’t know what to do either. Want to grab a beer? How about a bindle of cocaine – that too. And a couple of strippers.’
We didn’t know what to do, so we started writing songs for Theater Of Pain and ‘Home Sweet Home’ started to come out. The lyrics came out of that feeling of being gone so long and wanting to come back, which is ironic, right? Because all you ever want is to get in a band and go on the road, but then you’re on the road and you want to come home.”
This song depicts the importance of a home in our life. I am sure anyone who is traveling a lot has the same feelings for his/her home. The emotions expressed are similar across boundaries. How similar are we as humans? Then why do we fight? When I see the homes of Ukrainians falling like a house of cards, in this war, my heart goes to all the civilians who have lost their homes, loved ones, and livelihoods. I can see so many dreams buried under those roubles.
Yes, owning a house is one of the biggest dreams every young Indian wants to fulfill. The moment, a young adult gets into the job, he starts saving money for the downpayment. Buying an apartment in the most happening place in the city was the first choice of people, who can afford it. The distance increases as the funds decrease. If you are looking to calculate your funds, here is a calculator for mortgage calculation.
Covid has changed this. Now people who were earlier looking to book homes in the concrete city jungle are moving out of the hustle-bustle of the city towards the natural green surroundings. I am also one of them. Ahmedabad, where I intend to change my home from a concrete jungle to greener areas is said to have the most affordable housing projects in India, as per the Financial Express report.
The local government has passed projects worth 1.5 lakhs crore of affordable housing, which will fulfill the dreams of owning a home for middle-class buyers.
As a consequence of Covid, the property market all over the world has nosedived. So was the local Ahmedabad market. The whole industry came to standstill. As things are getting normal, the property industry is also getting normal. As per the government records, the state government recorded an impressive 43% increase in stamp duty collection as compared to last year. This points out to a solid bounce back in the real state of the city. A 25 % increase is seen in the property sale deeds too. Happy days are here again!
What should be checked before buying a property?
A house is the biggest lifetime investment for many of us. It is a dream, an emotion. We invest so much in this brick-and-mortar structure to convert this house into a home. There are several pointers that should be taken care of. I am listing some of the important ones below.
- Budget – Plan your budget. You can calculate your affordability here. Don’t overshoot your budget. There may be some hidden charges, that you might have missed. So keep provision for it too.
- Location – The location should be suitable for all family members. If there are school-going children in the family, the school bus stand should be nearby. Market, health facilities, recreation centers, check about all these facilities. List the drawbacks and advantages of the location, compare and then decide. It is an important aspect.
- Lifestyle – Check if the location suits your lifestyle. If you do not want long traveling to your workplace or if you are a sports enthusiast and there is a sports academy nearby, check if it satisfies your requirements.
- Connectivity and Transport – The availability of public and private transport in the area should be given consideration. It may affect the mobility of family members.
- Clear title deed – This is the most important parameter and gives due legal diligence to it. Ensure that the property titles are clear. This can be checked in sub-registrar’s office. You can appoint an advocate for this as this is a cumbersome process.
- Basic infrastructure – Enquire about the quality of water supply. What is the electricity supply and status of power cuts? Are the nearby areas have the proper infrastructure? Is the area in the municipality limits or not? How is the air quality?
- Social Infrastructure – Check the location of nearby schools, marketplace, nearest police station, fire station, parks, and playgrounds, etc.
- Construction Quality – Don’t go by the look of the structure. Check the credentials of the builder. There is no harm if you can check the quality through a structural engineer, if possible.
- Resale Value – It is good to buy a house of the size which is easy to sell.
- RERA registration – Ensure that the property which you are planning to buy is RERA registered. You can check it on their website. This protects you against structural defects for the next 5 years.
I hope this checklist will help you make the correct decision.
Happy homing!
