Practical Steps for Embracing Forgiveness
1. Acknowledge Your Feelings: Firstly, admit to yourself the pain and hurt that have resulted because of the betrayal or wrongdoing and at the same time accept the misery. Let yourself be the one to feel the full-range of emotions however you think they are without judging or criticizing yourself.
2. Understand the Other Person’s Perspective: Consider for yourself the wish and situation that might make a kind word become a nightmare. By this we don’t mean justifying and permitting their behaviour but understanding what caused the situation to occur.
3. Choose to Forgive: Forgiveness is about an individual who chooses to be forgiving, not for the offender’s sake, but for the sake of his own health. Choose to relinquish the hold resentment has on you, but accept forgiveness as a way out and free yourself from any forms of dependence.
4. Practice Self-Compassion: Be soft and caring during the entire process of following forgiveness. Remember to practice self-care and be engaged in happy and fulfilling activities. And if you have friends or a therapist you can rely on, do not hesitate to reach out to them.
5. Release Resentment: The hold on you of these resentment and bitterness undo yourself by being conscious and purposeful to forgive. This can include the act of writing a letter of forgiveness (although you may not send it), following forgiveness rituals or practices, or simply accepting these negative feelings and letting them go.
Forgiveness is a fantastic and amazing act that allows the crusts to be mended, the pain to be healed, and inner calmness to be cultivated. Through the acceptance of forgiveness as the channel to wellness, we liberate ourselves from any conflict rising up in us and thus create a milieu of love, tenderness and understanding. Please note that the forgiveness never is a feature of weakness, it is a sign of strength and nobility and mental ability for the personal growth and transformation.
