Sarees – My Favourite Festive Dress

The festive dressing is an art. It’s the perfect opportunity to dress up, show off your style and feel your best. Every Indian festive event is all about joy, celebration and happiness, and what better way to express that than through your attire? Whether it’s a holiday party, a family gathering, or a wedding, dressing for the occasion can be exciting and daunting all at once.

Whether you’re tall, short, slim, or curvy, there is a sari style that will work for you. This is one of the major reasons why I love saree as it has always worked for me in my various (size) avatars which I had donned/achieved as I was moving ahead from one decade to the next.

For every happy occasion, there has always been a saree for me. I prefer wearing silk sarees on festivals falling in winter. And cotton silk, chanderi, banarasi cotton, jute, and south cotton silk sarees in the summer festivals.

Draping a saree adds spring to my feet. I can hear the music which films play when one is in love. I can really hear that as I am getting ready by draping sarees on festivals. 🙂 Accessories are a major part of the festival dressing. I am not the kind who follows any fashion trends. Being a follower was never my style. I wear what my heart says.

On Holi, most people wear dresses, which they can discard after playing Holi. It has become fashionable now to buy new white-coloured dresses to play Holi. I have stopped playing with colours on Holi but I would still promote wearing an old dress for the sake of sustainability in fashion. For Rakshabandhan, Navratri, Diwali, karwachauth and other festivals wear anything traditional and of bright colours. It may be a lehenga-choli, salwar suit, sari etc. Usually, yellow, red, pink, and green tones bring in festive looks. Sometimes lighter colours like white, cream and beige also look good. It’s important to know what’s expected so that you can dress appropriately and feel comfortable. Besides looking and feeling dressy, comfort is also another parameter, which I take into consideration while selecting any outfit.

Choose the right colours: The festive dressing is all about bright colours, bold prints, and sparkly embellishments. Reds, greens, golds, and silvers are popular choices for festivals. Actually, in earlier times, only bright traditional colours like red, yellow, green or blue were preferred choices in any celebrations but now softer tones are also equally popular.

If you’re unsure which colour to choose, black or white is always a classic choice that never goes out of style.

Accessorize wisely: Accessories may add extra points to an outfit. A statement necklace, a pair of statement earrings, or a bold bracelet can take your outfit to the next level.
