Judging others is one of the favourite past time of many of us. Invariably, it is being done for the persons, we do not know much about. Why being judgmental is such a popular action?Judging others actually feeds on our prejudices. It shows a lack of respect for the person being judged. It reflects on the person judging others as an insecure, egoistic personality who lacks intellect.
This is so as judgmental people form views as per their perception but not on facts. When you judge a person, you are stereotyping. There is always three sides of a story – your side,my side and truth. Being judgmental means sticking to my side of story.
The sacred book Shri Bhagwat Geeta states that godly people avoid finding faults in others, even for those who are always finding faults in others. This is what being judgmental is all about.
A wise counsel mentioned in most of the scriptures is – do not judge others or you will also be judged.
So, how to stop being judgmental? It is not easy. It is very difficult as it calls for an ability to introspect, reflect and realising that you are not being fair to the person you are judging. It also makes you being not fair to your self too.
Bard (Bard, a poet, especially one who writes impassioned, lyrical, or epic verse. Bards were originally Celtic composers of eulogy and satire; the word came to mean more generally a tribal poet-singer gifted in composing and reciting verses on heroes and their deeds.) says, there is nothing good or bad. It is the perception or the thinking which makes it so. Learn to accept people as they are as it will make you a better person. Stop being judgmental to others, judge yourself and improve to your better self.
